Creating Community with Emotional Intelligence

“We can always grow, develop and change ourselves,

which is where Emotional Intelligence thrives – within ourselves.”

-TC&A

At TC&A, we LOVE the Fall Season and the month of November! Our family begins the season by celebrating birthdays in September – followed by more birthdays to celebrate in October. We are a family who has several great cooks who provide a wonderful Thanksgiving feast for extended family and friends. And, we enjoy one more birthday to celebrate at the end of November.

With all of the celebrating and feasting in mind, you can understand “why” Creating Community resonates with us here at TC&A. With our thoughts on building Trust from our October newsletter, we add further value, as we turn our  focus towards our mindset (how we think) and our behaviors (what we do) in Creating A Community.

Within the coaching context, we tend to foster Creating Community with our one-on-one coaching, which connects individuals to a shared communal mindset and with team building to give shared communal experiences. The shared mindset and experiences provide an actionable opportunity to put learning into practice (a life-long practice) individually and on behalf of their teams and work community.

As we lead ourselves and coach our clients, we are constantly reminded that each one of us has the ability to further grow and develop Trust and Create Community. We can do this through enlarging our capacity to build Emotional Intelligence.

What is Emotional Intelligence? Daniel Goleman who wrote Emotional Intelligence – Why it Can Matter More Than IQ, states the following leadership qualities build EQ:

SELF-AWARENESS

I know “why” I feel the way I do

SELF-MANAGED responses

I know “how” to respond appropriately to others

SOCIAL AWARENESS

I know “why” it is important to express empathy towards others and recognize “what” positive or negative energy is present around me

MANAGING OUR RELATIONSHIPS

I know “how” to foster connection and teamwork

We all have an opportunity to bring value in building Trust and Creating the Community that is meaningful and important to us when we make use of our Emotional Intelligent mindset and behaviors.

In support of you building trust and creating your community, think about implementing these four communication tools:

1.     Express Your PURPOSE in Being Self – Aware

a.  Use clear communication by stating your good intent and your purpose when communicating with others

2.     Effect Your GOAL with Self – Management

a. Clearly go over goals, timelines and expectations when communicating with others

3.     Extend Your SUPPORT with Social – Awareness

a. Supportive communication understands the needs and resources that others may need to meet the expectation or goal

4.     Encourage CONNECTION when Managing our Relationships

a. Foster connection when communicating the opportunities that are available when participating within the community

We know first-hand, how important Emotional Intelligence is and how important Trust is when CREATING A COMMUNITY.  As Leadership Coaches, we hear you and celebrate your successes. And, we hear and support you when circumstances are hard and challenging. We cannot change your circumstances or take away what you are experiencing or feeling. What we can do is – keep directing you to Creating your Community with Trust and Emotional Intelligence.

“We can always grow, develop and change ourselves,

which is where Emotional Intelligence thrives –

within ourselves.”

As we prepare to celebrate the Thanksgiving Season, may we commit to creating our familial, friendship, workplace and extended community – with Emotionally Intelligent mindsets and behaviors/actions. And, may we celebrate the sense of belonging to our communities with the deepest of gratitude.
